According to Forbes magazine this is the most dangerous phrase in business.

It’s a sentiment that’s trotted out alongside phrases like, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

The real frustration with these types of phrases is that they’re often used by the most well-intentioned colleagues or managers, trying to alleviate wasted efforts, or save time. Why? Because everyone is busy, everyone is under resourced and everyone is under financial pressure… so let’s just keep what we have.

In reality, all this culture does is thwart ambition and innovation. The world doesn’t wait for organisations to play catch up and so every once in a while more drastic changes in approach are needed.

Change is inevitable in every sector and every discipline, but that doesn’t mean we want to scurry off down blind alleys and do what everyone else does, as that at its best comes to a zero-sum approach.
