The Challenge: Motivate our workforce to futureproof the business
When Centrica first approached us, they did so with a very interesting internal communications issue.
For years, Centrica staff across all departments had felt let down by the company’s training and development programme. Learning and development had become a homogenised process, looking at the skills required for Centrica, regardless of the ambition and talents of the individuals in the business.
Our role was to help ensure its success through launching a new identity, positioning, messaging and comms strategy that would motivate colleagues and reinstate trust.
A Simple Solution: It’s all about you… so we win together
Internal training gets revamped all the time in large businesses, but what stood out here was a very simple and very powerful thought. In focusing on Centrica’s success, the business had forgotten about the motivation of the workforce, their development for their benefit wherever their careers take them, inside or outside of Centrica.
So, the creative work materialised quite quickly under a proposition of ‘Personal Growth Matters’ using staff imagery at the heart of execution.
We created brand guidelines and a toolkit for the L & D department, along with a launch campaign, assets and design work for the jewel in the crown – the department’s brand-new online learning and development platform for all staff: My Learning Campus.
Powerful Results: Investment secured to deliver the plan
This will be a job that will constantly evolve from our initial work with the L & D team, moving on to the Centrica Academies – Centrica’s 5 training academies that educate not just their staff but the whole sector across the UK.
We supported the Academies to define what “Best in Class” learning should be like, then focussing on what great could look like in terms of the redesign, refresh and refit of the Academies and their collateral.
This overall approach and discovery project shone a spotlight on the initiative, and secured the investment needed to ensure Centrica remained a well renowned Centre of Excellence for industry sector learning for years to come.
